How to create Amazon A+ Content: Basic and Premium, image sizes, rules and checklist (October 2026)
By Joffrey Petit, Founder of ecomDNAI · Last checked:
Amazon A+ Content replaces the plain product description with image and text modules. It is available to Professional sellers who hold a brand role in Amazon Brand Registry; Basic A+ allows up to five modules per page, Premium A+ up to seven, adding video, hotspots and carousels. Prices, guarantees, customer quotes, links and contact details are banned, and review takes up to seven business days.
Basic A+, Premium A+ and Brand Story at a glance
Amazon offers three types: Basic A+ (enhanced product description), Premium A+ (larger images, video, interactive elements) and the A+ Brand Story, which appears separately in the “From the brand” section. Basic and Premium sit in the “Product description” section and hide the existing plain-text description.
| Basic A+ | Premium A+ | |
|---|---|---|
| Modules per page | up to five | up to seven |
| Module types to choose from | 14 | 19 |
| Full image width | 970 px | 1464 px (desktop) |
| Video, hotspots, carousels, Q&A | no | yes |
| Access | Brand Representatives or Resellers in Brand Registry; generic ASINs since January 2024 | only brands that meet Amazon's criteria (see below) |
| Cost | no fee | no fee during the current promotional period |
| Sales impact according to Amazon | up to 8 percent | up to 20 percent when well implemented |
The Brand Story is a separate module with up to 19 carousel cards; it may link to your products and Brand Store and comes on top of Basic or Premium.
Who can use A+ Content
- Sellers: a Professional selling account and the Brand Representative or Reseller role for the ASIN's brand in Amazon Brand Registry. If the role is missing, the brand's administrator assigns it.
- Generic products: since January 2024, generic ASINs in a Professional seller's catalogue have access, but to Basic A+ only.
- Vendors: content from Amazon retail vendors appears under “From the manufacturer” and takes priority. If an ASIN already carries it, sellers cannot add A+ Content there.
- Not supported: books, music, video and DVD (BMVD) through Seller Central.
Requirements for Premium A+
According to the Seller Central help (October 2026), you qualify if all your ASINs have a published Brand Story and you have had at least five A+ projects approved and published in the past 12 months. Amazon re-evaluates eligibility every week and then shows a banner in A+ Content Manager; there is nothing to apply for. Meeting the criteria in one country unlocks Premium worldwide. Premium carries no fee during the promotional period; Amazon says any future fee would require your opt-in.
Image sizes per module
Minimum sizes according to Amazon's developer documentation for the A+ interface; A+ Content Manager scales larger images down to the template size.
| Module | Type | Minimum image size |
|---|---|---|
| Header image with text | Basic | 970 × 600 px |
| Image with text overlay | Basic | 970 × 300 px |
| Company logo | Basic | 600 × 180 px |
| Single side image, three images with text, single image highlights | Basic | 300 × 300 px |
| Image with sidebar | Basic | main image 300 × 400 px, sidebar 300 × 175 px |
| Four images with text | Basic | 220 × 200 px |
| Four image quadrant | Basic | 135 × 135 px |
| Comparison table (up to six products) | Basic | 150 × 300 px per product |
| Full background image, image carousel, hotspot image | Premium | desktop 1464 × 600 px, mobile 600 × 450 px |
| Image with text, video with text (preview image) | Premium | 800 × 600 px |
| Dual images with text | Premium | 650 × 350 px |
| Four columns, three column comparison | Premium | 300 × 225 px |
For every image the A+ guidelines require JPG, BMP or PNG in RGB (no CMYK), under 2 MB per file, at least 72 dpi, no animated GIFs, no watermarks and no text that is unreadable on a phone. Images should be made for A+ only and not repeat the gallery images.
Text limits and formatting
- Text module: headline up to 160 characters, body up to 5000 characters.
- Three or four images with text: per block, headline up to 160 and body up to 1000 characters.
- Tech specs: four to 16 specs, name up to 30 and value up to 500 characters.
- Alt text: required, up to 100 characters, one descriptive sentence for screen readers.
- Premium: image with text up to 500 characters of body copy, text module up to 5000, carousel with two to six cards, hotspot image with two to six points, button labels up to 12 characters.
Also required: no HTML tags, numbers under 10 spelled out, no strings of all caps, sparing bold and italics, no spelling errors, only the language set for the content and a single brand logo.
What is banned in A+ Content
- Prices and promotion: no prices, discounts or deals, no words such as “affordable”, “cheap” or “free”, and no calls to buy such as “buy now” or “add to cart”.
- Guarantees: no warranty or guarantee information and no off-Amazon return or refund policies. Satisfaction promises such as “100% satisfaction guaranteed” are banned too.
- Customer reviews: no quotes from customers or private individuals. At most four quotes from well-known publications or public figures are allowed, with author, date and title.
- Links and contact: no hyperlinks, no redirects to other pages on or off Amazon, no QR codes, phone numbers or email addresses, no off-Amazon customer service and no shipping details such as “free shipping”.
- Competitors: no names or comparisons, not even as “others”. Comparison charts only with products of your own brand; category comparisons (such as LED versus halogen) are fine.
- Time references: no words such as “new”, “now” or “the latest product” and no holidays. They are allowed in the Brand Story.
- Claims: no superlatives such as “#1 rated” or “best-selling”. Awards only with the awarding body and date, no older than two years; certification and test claims only with evidence and year. “Eco-friendly”, “biodegradable”, “compostable” and health cure claims are banned.
- Symbols: ™, ® and © only on packaging or the logo, never in the text; no imitation of Amazon logos or page headings.
AI images and AI people
If an image shows photorealistic people who are entirely AI-generated, you must tag it before upload: with the keyword contains-synthetic-performer in the dc:subject (XMP) field, or by selecting “AI-generated people” when uploading to Creative Assets. Amazon then adds a disclosure. Real people who were only edited are not tagged. You also remain responsible for content from Amazon's own AI feature (“AI Ready” modules).
Review and common rejection reasons
Amazon reviews automatically and manually, which takes up to seven business days, longer during the holiday season, and expedited requests are not possible. After approval, it can take up to 24 hours before the content shows. Up to 20 submissions can be in review at once. When you submit a revised version, the old one stays live until the new one is approved.
- Prohibited keywords in the text, the alt text or the image: the system blocks submission until they are removed.
- Blurry or undersized images, too much whitespace, text that is unreadable on a phone.
- Prices, promotions, guarantees, contact details or unsubstantiated superlatives.
- Alt text that does not describe the image.
- ASIN not recognised as part of your brand, usually because of a mismatched brand name (case, spaces, hyphens) or a wrong GTIN.
You see the rejection reason when you open the project in A+ Content Manager. Amazon now also scores A+ Content for readability, completeness and visual presentation; weak content may be shown collapsed on the detail page. Recommendations appear in the “Content quality analysis” tab.
What A+ Content delivers according to Amazon
Based on internal data, Amazon cites up to 8 percent more sales for Basic A+ and up to 20 percent for well-implemented Premium A+, plus fewer negative reviews and returns. These are Amazon's own figures; you can test the effect with Manage Your Experiments (A/B tests, up to 500 ASINs per experiment).
Step by step to A+ Content
- Check access: role in Brand Registry, correct brand name and GTIN on the ASINs.
- Plan the content: answer customer questions, carry over the plain-text description, prepare dedicated images at the minimum sizes.
- Create the project: in Seller Central, open A+ Content Manager under Advertising (Inventory on some accounts), choose “Start creating A+ Content”, set name, language and modules, and save as a draft.
- Add text and alt text, then check the preview on desktop and mobile.
- Apply ASINs: ideally the whole ASIN family. For more than 1000 ASINs, bulk upload is mandatory; it allows up to 500,000.
- Submit and track the status; if rejected, read the reason, fix it and resubmit.
- More languages: create language variations. A+ only appears on the page in the language it was published in; Amazon may also translate automatically.

Where AI helps
AI saves time on fixed text lengths, image formats and checking copy against the banned list, but it does not replace Amazon's approval. With the ecomDNAI Amazon A+ module, an ASIN, product URL, data feed or knowledge base becomes the A+ and Premium modules including images; a check flags wording that breaks Amazon's guidelines, and the export delivers a ZIP with images in the module sizes. Uploading and submitting in Seller Central is still up to you.
